No two customers are alike in their preferences for peaches, plums and nectarines

Industry research has identified that some consumer prefer fruit that is sweet and crunchy, some prefer fruit that is soft and juicy and some prefer fruit that is in-between.

Crunchy & Sweet Varieties

Approximately 1/3 of consumers prefer fruit that is crunchy and sweet. We recommend directing these consumers to white flesh peaches and nectarines, which are sweet and delicious while still on the firm, crispy side. We can provide you with point of sale materials to help get the crunchy and sweet message across in your displays.

Soft & Juicy Varieties

Approximately 2/3 of consumers prefer fruit that is soft and juicy or somewhere between firm and soft. We recommend directing these consumers to yellow flesh varieties, fruit that is delicious for those who like their fruit from just moist to super juicy. We can provide you with point of sale materials to help get the soft and juicy message across in your displays.

Consumer Education

  • Build your displays incorporating consumer education messages directing consumers to their preference of Crunchy and Sweet, Soft and Juicy or somewhere in-between. This will help drive consumers to fruit that is more likely to deliver a satisfying eating experience.
  • Crunchy and Sweet white flesh fruit is low in acid and should be firm when eaten. Offer a sample to your customer to show them the difference in flavor and texture.
  • Soft and Juicy yellow flesh fruit will be ready to eat in 1 to 1 ½ days when at room temperature. Education about how to allow yellow fresh fruit to reach a consumer’s optimal juiciness is important.
  • All produce staff should taste each peach, plum and nectarine variety weekly so that they can talk about the product with customers.
  • Sample Ripe ‘N Ready fruit with customers whenever possible.
